The fattest addition to our jra wheel range. These wheels use our jra fat hubs in 135mm front, 170mm rear widths laced to Sun’s 80mm wide, tubeless compatible Mulefut rims for some of the lightest, toughest fat wheels we could build. From October 2018 we are using the new version of the Sun Mulefut with triangular cut-outs.
The front jra hubs are interchangeable between 135mm QR, 135x15mm and 135x20mm (although we haven’t seen a 135x20mm axle….yet). There is also a 150x15mm front hub. Rear are 170mm QR or 135x12mm, 12x177mm or 12×190/197..
The rear hub uses a 54-point engagement freehub with 6 pawls operating in 2 sets of 3 engaging at any one time. Pawls are individually sprung for reliability and the bearings used are high quality stainless steel. Freehubs are interchangeable between Shimano and Sram XD, and all spares are available through our website.
The Sun Mulefut rims are relatively light weight, strong and have very reliable tubeless performance. The bead locks hold the tyre tight for no burping and make tubeless inflation very easy with a standard track pump. Tubeless sealing is achieved by installing a standard fat bike rim strip (eg Surly “Rolling Darryl” rimstrip) and then applying a layer of duck tape / gorilla to the inside of the rim, across the whole width.
