I believe that you need the same conversion kit as the 240 hubs. The best way to check is to pull the end caps off your hub, and measure the length of the axle. If it is about 115mm long without the end caps, then it is the same as the 240 hubs and you need one of the kits on this page:

http://www.justridingalong.com//shop.php?product=7465

Either the 135mm to QR, or the 135mm to 10mm thru bolt (for RWS skewer) option.

Is it possible to convert the rear from 142x12 to 135x12, 135x10 or 135x5? Will I only need the endcaps kit to convert from 142 to 135mm? Thanks.

Paulo, thanks for the feedback. Most people are OK with no rimstrip but you must just be riding them harder than average...it's good to know that the rimstrip solves the problem if tyre unseating is a problem.

Brutus, I've seen the calculations and read the book and until recently I would have gone along with it. But in the last few months I've been riding more road and cross wheels, and the radial ones were feeling harsher. Of course this might be me imagining it, the only way to be sure would be to set up a blind test and go ride them to find out. One day I might even do this. In the meantime I've developed a healthy scepticism of using numbers to explain how bikes work. Bikes always work out more complicated than the simple models people use to explain them; their numbers may be right but the assumptions often aren't.

having had a few trials and tribulations with these wheels set up as tubeless for cross. i did the 3 peaks and destroyed one set of rims completely. i didn't give up though another cross race saw a tyre blew completely from the rim and i still persisted. putting rim strips onto these rims has been my final saviour and no mishaps so far. I'm running maxxis mud wrestlers at the mo with approx 30 psi with no burping and much easier inflation with the added rim strips.

You say radial lacing gives a harsh ride over rough terrain.
Brandt says a 3 cross wheel will flatten at the bottom by 0.15mm when a load of 50Kg is applied at the axle.
How much less will a radially spoked wheel flatten?
A tyre offers at least 20mm of cushioning.
If anything in a wheel moves by 2mm, some spokes will have no tension, and the nipples will be free to undo.
I say its the tyre that softens the ride, not the wheel.

I've already got two black bikes, so blue it had to be. It rides really nicely on my local byways. The build came in at 10.7kg (I'm just waiting for a WI freewheel). Only 0.9kg heavier than my stock steamroller.

Thanks for the photo, it's good to see the wheels getting some serious use. That looks like a pretty heavy duty bike, we were just looking at buying one of those Cross Checks, in that colour too.

Thanks guys. The Salsa Delgado wheels you guys built for me are fantastic. They should be pretty much bulletproof paired up with the Marathon Extreme tyres. http://i.imgur.com/FYTDL.jpg
