Nice in the sun, last Tuesday. This Tuesday we went to Totley moor and Heckler Dave had a huge crash, I think he’s still picking bits out of his shorts and putting them back together but he’ll be ok soon.

Come on! I want a roost-by-tumble account of the incident ;-) There must be more detail to the story …
Well it involved a new downhill trail with a lot of sketchy jumps (that fall apart when you hit them). The stack was at the very bottom, it’s a pretty big move which starts with a launcher off a high bit of ground then a large pit to clear, dropping down to a relatively small transition before a flat run-out. If you overshoot the transition you’re landing to flat from 8ft up (maybe more) and if you undershoot then you do what Simon did a while back and end up stacking in the pit.
Dave took a long run up (Simon: “Oh…. Dave’s going a bit fast…”) and launched, unfortunately he not only landed to flat but way over the front wheel, in fact a significant way through a front flip. From there he (still firmly attached to the bike) bounced, completing the front flip in the process and rolled a couple more times eventually coming to a rest about 20ft down the trail. Kind of smiling but more in a relieved happy-to-be-alive way rather than anything else.
Dave spent the next 15 minutes crawling around on all fours and checking to make sure it was all intact “down below” although he seemed more concerned about his knee (well he has got 3 kids already I guess the knee’s more important). Just a shame we didn’t record it for posterity, it’s definitely the biggest stack I’ve seen close up.
That is the ticket, sounds painful mind so get well soon and all that and get the ghost dealt with ;-)
