Maxxis: Ardent
Super-fast rolling, aggressive tread, great in drier conditions.
Ardents are easily the fastest rolling of the Maxxis downhill treads but when leaned over the aggressive side knobbles dig in firmly to most surfaces. Sizes stocked at JRA range from a reasonably large but lightweight folding 2.25" (weight: 637g) up to a massive 2.4" Dual Ply Casing (DPC).
We especially like the 2.25 and 2.4 single ply versions for a light(ish) tyre that can be ridden hard, and the new 2.25 and 2.4 EXO casings look like being the ultimate all-rounder tyre for heavy duty riding.
The range has recently expanded to include the first tubeless Ardent, the 2.25 LUST, as well as a couple of 29ers in 2.25 and a huge 2.4 width. Check frame clearance before ordering a 2.4!
Maxxis say "Aggressive tread in high-volume casings... Large block-style side knobs offer numerous edges for high-speed corners. Centre tread, while designed for braking and accelerating traction, also features ramped knobs to minimise rolling resistance"
Sizing these are the new Maxxis sizing so come up larger than their old scale, e.g 2.4 is more than 0.05 larger than a 2.35.
